Thousands of school support staff across the country have negotiated a pay increase next year.
The staff, including teacher aides, librarians, office managers, ICT specialists and therapists, were being offered no increase, but after months of negotiation through their union, the New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI), managed to win a raise.
Staff on the bottom of the scale would go up from $12.94 to $14 an hour and those earning more than $14.62 would receive a 1.4 percent increase.
The agreement runs for 15 months and will expire on March 31, 2011.
NZEI national secretary Paul Goulter said the increase was a significant achievement with the ongoing wage freeze in the state sector.
