Teen admits Auckland party killing

An 18-year-old youth who stabbed another teenager to death outside a party in Auckland last year has pleaded guilty.

The youth, who was 17 at the time, was to stand trial in the High Court at Auckland today for the murder of Warren Rosillo, 18, after initially pleading not guilty, but he changed his plea this morning.

"He considered his position and the circumstances around the offending for which he has been charge," his lawyer Nigel Cooke told the court.

"He came to a decision of his own free will that he wishes to change his plea."

Justice Wylie granted the youth continued name suppression until at least Friday, when a full hearing on the matter would take place.

The youth, who has been on bail since he was arrested shortly after the incident last July, was remanded in custody.

Mr Rosillo died in the middle of the road late on Friday, July 29 outside a party in Pakuranga.

Police have said he was stabbed during an argument about a girl.

Mr Rosillo and his family moved to New Zealand from the Philippines at age 13.
