Two German tourists were seriously injured when their van collided with a logging truck near Dargaville this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene just south of the Northland town at about 10.30am.
Sergeant Garth Mackay of the Dargaville Police said the accident occured directly outside a farm-visit attraction, the Kumara Box.
"The van has been at the Kumaru Box, it's come out into the southbound lane and collided with a southbound truck heading towards Te Kopuru," he said.
"The van, with two female German tourists, has ended up on the other side of the road in a ditch."
Sgt Mackay said the women were in their mid-20s
The driver critically injured and airlifted to hospital in Auckland, while the passenger and was airlifted to Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition.
The logging truck was empty and piggy-backing the trailer. The truck driver was not injured but very shaken.
