Waikato baby deaths 'not suspicious'

The deaths of two babies earlier this week is an "absolute tragedy" for two Waikato families, say police.

There were no suspicious circumstances behind the deaths of a seven-month-old Morrinsville girl and seven-week-old Te Aroha boy, Matamata Piako sub area supervisor Senior Sergeant Dana McDonald told the New Zealand Herald.

Police could not say yet how the boy died as the post mortem results were not yet available, he said.

But there was no indication of intentional or accidental injuries, coroner Peter Ryan told the paper.

A post mortem was due to be carried out on the girl today.
