Waitangi weekend weather looking good

Summer may have been mixed - to say the least - but it's looking good for a fine Waitangi weekend for most, the MetService says.

An anticyclone meant the weather would be mild and warm in most places, with light winds, MetService meteorologist Daniel Corbett said.

However, the eastern coasts might be cloudy from time to time, and rain was possible in the far north and far south, though the MetService website today forecasts a dry weekend for Dunedin and inland Otago.

The news was especially good for those attending the sevens tournament in Wellington on Friday and Saturday.

"... conditions should be fine with some cloud on Friday and sunny skies on Saturday,'' Mr Corbett said.

"Temperatures should reach the low 20s late afternoon, dipping into the high teens by the end of the festivities.''
