Woman in court over Gisborne stabbing

A 30-year-old woman will appear in court this afternoon charged with murder after a man was stabbed to death in Gisborne on Tuesday.

She was arrested after hitchhiking to Opotoki, said police.

The dead man was today named as Lawrence Teepa-Moon, 33.

Mr Teepa-Moon was found with stab wounds at a house on Childers Rd about 10pm on Tuesday.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said the man had lost a large amount of blood from a wound in his neck.

He was taken to Gisborne Hospital by ambulance but died on arrival.

A post-mortem is expected to be carried out today.

Mr Ford said there had been a small party at the address throughout the afternoon and the evening.

There were a number of children there on the night of the stabbing but police believed they were asleep when it happened.

Police were liaising with Child Youth and Family.

Family liaison officers and victim support are working with relatives and witnesses traumatised by what happened.
