A collection of senior National MPs have flown in to Auckland to discuss with John Key what shape the next Government should take.
After securing a 60-seat win in yesterday's election, Mr Key said he would be looking to put formal agreements in place with Act, the Maori Party and United Future, and he reiterated those plans today.
Speaking to reporters at an Auckland hotel this afternoon, Mr Key said he would be meeting senior ministers at his Parnell home from 3pm to discuss the Government arrangements.
He would be meeting Act, United Future and the Maori Party separately from 1pm in Wellington tomorrow.
"My expectations around those discussions are that they're likely to be in a similar basis to what we had in 2008 to 2011 period, so they're likely to be a confidence and supply agreements. There may well be ministerial responsibility outside Cabinet.''
He said he would also talk to the Greens, but expected any agreement with the party to be around specific policies rather than a formal confidence and supply arrangement.
Mr Key said he wanted to move as fast as he could and form a Government within the week.
"New Zealanders want that. Part of the reason we got the result that we did last night was that New Zealanders really clearly understood that political instability can have a real impact on economic recovery.''
Mr Key said the Cabinet would be named fast. He said there would be new faces but would not comment on what changes there might be.
"Our first priority is to sign off the agreements with other parties so we can get the Government absolutely nailed down.''
Looking much further down the line to the next election, Mr Key said he anticipated standing again as National's leader.
