Simon Murdoch to be acting chief of GCSB

Simon Murdoch, the former Foreign Affairs and Trade secretary, has been appointed acting chief executive and director of the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB), Prime Minister John Key announced today.

Mr Murdoch held the role from November last year until February this year, when Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae was appointed head of the GCSB.

He has been appointed to the role again because in August Sir Jerry is going to be the next governor-general.

Mr Murdoch takes up the role on July 1.
