One person has been left seriously injured following a crash between a car and pedestrian on Friday morning.

Police were called to the crash just before 9am, they said in a statement.

Fitzherbert and Park Sts were closed as emergency services worked at the scene.

The injured person was being taken to hospital.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
