Glenn Moore's future as Highlanders coach has just been enveloped by an even darker cloud.

In a statement released by the New Zealand Rugby Union on the eve of the Carisbrook test, it was confirmed the Highlanders' head and assistant coach roles would be advertised.

The decision to advertise both roles was taken by the NZRU on the recommendation of the coaching review panel, which has conducted its 2010 season review of head coach Moore and assistant coach Peter Russell.

Both coaches are eligible to re-apply for the position but neither could be contacted yesterday about their intentions.

The jobs will be advertised from June 27.

The review panel consisted of NZRU board member Graham Mourie, NZRU high performance manager Mike Chu, Highlanders chairman Ross Laidlaw and Highlanders project manager Roger Clark.

Moore still has one year left on his contract but his position was always in doubt after the Highlanders had a disappointing season, finishing 12th in the Super 14. The Highlanders have won 10 games out of 39 in the three seasons Moore has been in charge.

Russell had a two-year contract which finished at the end of the season.

Few contenders for the top job have yet emerged, though Wellington coach Jamie Joseph, Southland co-coaches Simon Culhane and David Henderson, and even new Otago coach Phil Mooney may be among the names to be mentioned.
