Rain ends virtual semi; Union through

Rain forced the abandonment of the two Dick Hunt holiday competition fixtures, in what had been shaping to be an exciting final round in Oamaru.

At King George Park, home team Union took on Oamaru, with the winner set to qualify for the final.

But rain had the final say as the game was abandoned after just 5.1 overs, with Union 26 without loss at the time.

Union qualified for the final as it was the second-placed team going into the round.

The other match was effectively a dead rubber. Albion was playing Valley, which had yet to record a win in the competition.

Valley batted first and was 20 for two after three overs before the rain forced players from the field.

The final this Friday will feature defending champion Union against undefeated Albion, which will be seeking to win its first Dick Hunt Memorial Rosebowl in 13 seasons.

In a weekend filled with cricket in Oamaru, the day after the holiday competition final will bring the resumption of the Borton Cup Competition.

At the same time, North Otago will start its two-day Hawke Cup match against Mid Canterbury.
