Man spat on by teens in Maccas fracas

A Dunedin man who stepped in when a group of 20 teens was causing a ruckus in a McDonald’s was spat on and had soap squirted on him.

When police pulled up to the McDonald’s in George St at 6.30pm yesterday, they spotted a 14-year-old girl breaching her bail conditions who then fled police, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said.

The group of 20 teenagers were ‘‘being a nuisance, and abusing staff and customers’’ when an adult man intervened and asked the group to settle down and move on from the restaurant.

He was then spat on and squirted with soap by two of the teenagers, including the 14-year-old girl.

When the teenage girl spotted officers, she attempted to flee the scene, however was chased by police and was arrested for breaching her bail conditions.

She was taken to the cells where she then proceeded to assault two police officers.

The teenager was held overnight to appear in Dunedin District Court this morning and was charged with assault, disorderly behaviour, and two charges of assaulting police.
