Standing beside State Highway 8 at the bottom of the Fruitlands straight, the Cap Broome Hotel is perhaps the most photographed building in Central Otago.

It was used until the early 1900s when a fire burnt out the interior, and afterwards served as a shearing shed.

In January 1986, members of the Dunedin Photographic Society, Trevor and Norma Taylor, prepared to photograph the old stone building.
