The long battle over whether a proposed Arrowtown winery and distillery will go ahead is due to come to an end this month.

The resource consent application for businessman Mike Almquist’s The Shire development, the hearing for which took place in Queenstown in February, proposes distillery facilities, a cafe, cellar and tasting room on Mr Almquist’s property in McDonnell Rd.

Hearing commissioners Dr Lee Beattie and Rachel Dimery confirmed they did not require any further information to make a decision.

They have closed the hearing to start making a decision, which is due by April 17.
