Council adopts land plan

An integrated planning approach for Alexandra, Clyde and surrounds has been approved by the Central Otago District Council.

The move to adopt the Vincent Basin Spatial Plan made one councillor emotional at meeting of the council on Wednesday.

"This is the most exciting thing for the Alexandra district, I could cry.

"It’s just really exciting," Cr Lynley Claridge said.

The development of the plan addresses growth and land use in the Alexandra Basin, Omakau and Ophir, providing infrastructure to accommodate future growth and a master plan for the Alexandra Airport.

The spatial plan will provide direction for growth and development for the next 30 years. The community will have opportunities to engage in the process through surveys, meetings and drop-in sessions, and specific stakeholder meetings will be held to understand the issues.
