Ettrick crash victim named

Alexandra police have released the name of the woman who died at the scene of a crash at Butchers Dam, near Alexandra on Wednesday.

Senior Constable Mike Colligan said Lois Ann Brown (69), from Dumbarton, near Ettrick, was pronounced dead at the scene after her late model car collided with a truck travelling in the opposite direction.

Police praised efforts by Department of Conservation workers who tried to revive her before emergency services arrived.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident although his vehicle had to be taken away by transporter.

Police are investigating the crash but did not believe speed or alcohol were involved.

• Meanwhile, a Ranfurly man remains in a serious condition in the intensive care ward at Dunedin Hospital.

Alan Shead (30) was flown to Dunedin Hospital with serious head injuries after the utility he was driving collided with another utility and was flipped on its roof on the Ranfurly-Patearoa Rd/Barneys Lane intersection.
