Eldest sibling and New Zealand men’s skip Sean Becker said having all his siblings compete in an international competition was a novelty.
Sean, James and Scott will be competing in the Pan Continental competition’s A division for the New Zealand men’s team and Bridget as skip for the New Zealand women’s team at the same event.
They have been competing as a family for years, but middle brother James had yet to represent New Zealand.
After winning the nationals in June this year, it was decided to finally give him his cap, Sean said.
"Even at my tender age of 50, we’re going to sneak away and see if we can do the business for New Zealand and get ourselves to the world."
The tournament would provide the opportunity for New Zealand to qualify a team for the world championships next April, Sean said.
The Becker family were looking forward to competition.
"I had sort of thought myself that I was sort of retiring from that sort of high-end competitive stuff, but they talked me around. The rest of the guys said, ‘let’s give it a go, give it one more go’."
Father and World Curling Hall of Fame member Peter Becker said it was great to see his children take up the sport and follow in his footsteps.
It was also exciting to have all four representing New Zealand at the same time, he said.
"We’ve been thrilled, really."
The Beckers will leave for the tournament in Virginia, Minnesota, on October 11 and will spend just under two weeks in the United States.
