Central Otago's volunteer fire brigade members were kept on their toes throughout the weekend, with four stations called to incidents in Ranfurly, Roxburgh, Cromwell, and Alexandra.
Ranfurly's green waste stack caught on fire on Saturday, sparking two callouts for the Ranfurly Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The smouldering green waste pile on Drumglass St, on the outskirts of Ranfurly, was initially put out by the brigade early in the morning.
Smoke again sent the fire engine to the pile at 10.30am.
No damage was caused as a result of the fire, although it created foul-smelling smoke which drifted over Ranfurly.
At 6pm on Saturday, the Roxburgh Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to a small electrical fire in a vehicle on Scotland St.
Chief Fire Officer David Rooney said damage was minimal.
Soon afterwards, the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to three incidents.
Chief Fire Officer Steve Shaw said a chimney fire in a Waenga Dr property about 6.30pm was followed by a small fire underneath a parked car on Inniscort St at 7pm.
The third fire call amounted to "an investigation", he said.
No major damage resulted from the fires, he said.
The Alexandra Volunteer Fire Brigade was also called to a small vegetation fire near Earnscleugh Rd at 1.30pm yesterday
