Rumours circulating Central Otago yesterday that funding had been found to keep the Roxburgh Health Camp open were incorrect, a spokeswoman from the Minister of Social Development's office said.
The camp is under threat of closure because of a $5 million national funding shortfall for health camps.
The local community has protested about the closure.
Victoria Young, from Social Development minister Paula Bennett's office, said last night the rumours were untrue.
A financial review of the camps by Price Waterhouse, commissioned by the Ministry of Social Development, was not yet completed, she said.
Wayne Chapman, the chairman of the Te Puna Whaiora Children's Health Camps board, also confirmed the rumours were wrong and the board was still in talks with the ministry.
Dr Fiona Inkpen, chief executive of Te Puna Whaiora, was unable to be reached yesterday.
