Project earns provisional grant

A sustainable Wanaka Charitable Trust initiative has been short-listed with 39 other environmentally aware projects from around the country for a slice of the Government's Sustainable Management Fund.

Sustainable Wanaka's ‘‘Eco-Design project'' - which provides advice about household sustainability to the Queenstown Lakes District - is in line to receive a $50,000 grant from the funding programme.

A provisional grant of $50,000 for Sustainable Wanaka was announced by the Minister of Environment Trevor Mallard and the Minister responsible for Climate Change Issues David Parker last week.

However, the charitable trust has to wait until June to find out whether its application for the 2008-09 round of funding is successful.

Sustainable Wanaka Charitable Trust chairman John Beattie said the funding would go towards the full-time employment of an eco-design consultant, who will work on district wide projects with the QLDC.
