''We were pleased to see it and it was great timing. The rain was very welcome and it just added the finishing touches, making the track soft and fast, '' he said.
The day attracted a good crowd of about 3000 people.
Ten races were on the card and the crowd was a mixture of locals and holiday-makers.
Among the volunteers working behind the scenes were Keith Duncan, of Roxburgh, and Allan McDonnell and John Brun, of Alexandra, who were timekeepers for the day.
''It's all electronic these days, but you still need the back-up of people with stopwatches in case of a power failure, '' Mr Brun said.
The final race meeting in the Central Otago series is the Wyndham Harness Racing Club's meeting in Cromwell tomorrow.
