Relay a record-breaker

Central Otago's first Relay for Life was a record-breaker.

The $201,130 raised for the Cancer Society was the highest total for a first Relay for Life in the South Island and the second-highest total in the country for an inaugural event, the society's Otago and Southland division chief executive, Wendy Houliston said.

More than 1300 people took part in the event staged at Cromwell on March 7 and 8. The funds would be used to employ a health promotion officer, to complement the support service's work, Ms Houliston said.
