Rotary book sale marks 21st year

December book sales throughout Central Otago have generated more than $22,000 for various groups, charities, and organisations in the district.

In Alexandra, the annual Rotary book sale at St Enoch's Church Hall on Centennial Ave took in just over $21,000.

The sale, which was held daily from December 26 to 30, celebrated its 21st year.

Rotary club member Michael Rooney said various community projects would receive money from the sale throughout 2009.

Since its inception it has raised more than $250,000 for community charities and organisations.

Beneficiaries included the Special Olympics, Trees For Babies, Friends of Dunstan Hospital, and Central Otago Victim Support.

The Maniototo district's annual book sale in the Naseby Town Hall on December 29 generated about $1000 for the Maniototo community library.

A Roxburgh book fair will be held at the Teviot Union Church Hall from January 9 to 10.

It annually raises funds for the Catholic Church in Roxburgh and includes white elephant, baking, and produce stalls, as well as books.
