Naseby is the highest town in New Zealand at about 600m above sea level.
The course was set around a 10km loop, one half along a gravel road, and the other on a forest track beside the water race.

The water race was built for gold mining in about 1860. Now it provides the water supply for Naseby.
Race distance options comprised 50km, 60km, 100km, 200km, 100 miles and 200 miles.
Regardless of weather, the race has been held in Naseby every year at the end of August.
Temperatures across the three days were below 14degC and there were light winds.
