Sisters Taylor (12) and Bailey (9) McCaughan, of Alexandra, are polished talent quest competitors, something that might have given them an edge when they performed their gymnastics routine to Lady Gaga's Born This Way at Alexandra's Summer Daze talent quest, held in Pioneer Park yesterday. Pictured at right is Hannah Lindsay, of Milton.

Taylor and Bailey won first place and $300 in the junior section of the talent quest, beating five other entries, but Taylor admitted the competition was "good".

There were 10 items in the senior section, for performers over 15.

Most performers were singers who also played guitar but a couple of duets showed off some polished harmonies.

Singer-songwriter Bryony Harrison (17), of Balclutha, won this section and the $500 prize money with her own piece Torla, a song about growing up.

Judges Maxine Williams and Trevor Goudie said the senior section was hard to judge and they were impressed with both the number and talent of the entrants.

Summer Daze continues today with local musicians from 11am to 1pm in Pioneer Park.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
