The river track between Alexandra and Clyde has been sealed off again, a few hours after it had reopened yesterday.

The latest bout of volatile weather in the region has caused further problems for the 12.8km walking and cycle track during the holiday season.

The Central Otago District Council announced, in a Facebook post yesterday, that the trail had opened after being closed for more than a month.

However, it cautioned users as debris was likely on sections
of the track.

‘‘Our parks contractor will be scheduling maintenance work over the coming weeks,’’ a council representative said.

Four hours later, the council said its parks contractor had closed the track again due to significant debris from fallen trees and branches from high winds over the past few days.

The track had been closed since December 3, following rising river levels along the Clutha.

Council staff and contractors were working to clear the area and a further update was expected today.
