Ms Bulk was runner-up in the event, which was held in Marlborough this week. Tim Adams, from Obsidian on Waiheke Island, won the title.
Event national co-ordinator Nicky Grandorge said it had been "fantastic" to have a female in the competition "and to see that viticulture can be a very successful and exciting career for both men and women".
Ms Bulk was the sole female candidate in this year’s event.
"Annabel impressed the judges not only with her high level of viticultural knowledge, but also her great aptitude and ability in the practical challenges, as she very quickly and professionally rigged up some trellising, wiring and irrigation equipment," Ms Grandorge said.
The calibre of the finalists had been extremely high, she said.
As part of the contest, finalists had to complete and present a report on a project they were given to research; do a range of challenges, including budgeting, pests and diseases, tractor maintenance, trellising, irrigation and general viticultural knowledge; take part in an interview; and give a speech at the Bragato conference.
