Weston Community Church held its annual Weston Fun Fair last weekend.
The day felt "like a picnic day"one of the fair co-ordinators Sharyn Walker said.
"It was quite a social occasion.
"People catch up with one another and in the digital age it’s not so common.
"We just want to bless the community we live in and engage with the community we live in."
The fair had plenty of activities for young children such as bouncy castles, cookie decorating and a small farm animal "petting zoo".
There was also a fun pie-in-the-face game in which children could lather a sponge with shaving cream and throw it at each other as their faces poked through a wooden wall.
For the adults, there was a white elephant stall selling a range of household items as well.
The animals, in particular, were a big hit, Mrs Walker said.
"Kids were just really drawn to the animals and had a blast."
It allowed them to engage with the rural families from Weston.
The feedback from those who attended was positive, Mrs Walker said.
"I had a chat with a young couple with a young girl and they said they had an absolute blast. They had been to the [North Otago A&P Show, in February, which] they loved and came to our fair and thought it was even better so that was nice."
It also doubled as a fundraiser with the church raising more than $6000 to replace its playground.
Mrs Walker hoped the new playground would be installed within the "next few months".
