Last seat on Fairlie board filled

The remaining vacancy on the Fairlie Community Board was filled this week following a by-election.

Only three nominations were received for the four-seat board during October's local body elections, and a by-election was called for February 11 to fill the remaining seat, along with one remaining position on the Tekapo Community Board.

Although Mackenzie District Council electoral officer Paul Morris said only one nomination was received for the Tekapo seat so no by-election was needed, a by-election was needed for the Fairlie position, because four nominations were received.

Warren Barker was this week officially elected, after he received 120 votes.

Chris Clarke received 95 votes, Pauline Jackson 81 votes and Ernie Gabsa 32 votes.

Voter turnout was 49.85%. Lynette Martin was elected unopposed to the Tekapo Community Board.
