A temporary liquor ban could be in place at Otematata this Labour Weekend in another bid to head off trouble in the Waitaki Valley holiday town caused by an influx of young people.
The Waitaki District Council on Wednesday will consider whether to take the first step to legally implement the temporary ban, which will also apply at Christmas (between December 26 and January 2) and Easter.
The ban, which applies to open liquor containers, has the support of the community and Ahuriri Community Board, which put forward the recommendation to the council.
