How much Waitaki District Council ratepayers will pay over the next 10 years will be discussed at six public meetings during the next two weeks.

The meetings are being held to discuss the council's draft 10-year long-term council community plan (LTCCP), which will also set the rates for next year.

The council's draft plan indicates a 3.3% rates rise next financial year.

The meetings, all at 7pm, start today at the Omarama Fire Station hall.

Other meetings are scheduled for Otematata Lakes Centre, Monday; Oamaru Club, Thursday, April 2; Palmerston Sports Hall, Tuesday, April 7; Hampden Community Hall, Wednesday, April 8; Five Forks Community Hall, Thursday, April 9.

Strategy group manager Richard Mabon said the meetings were an opportunity for residents and ratepayers to hear more information about the draft plan and ask questions.

Councillors, community board members and staff will attend the meetings to talk about the key issues and answer questions.

"It's a great chance for the community to hear more about the important issues that will affect the district over the next 10 years," Mr Mabon said.

There will be a short presentation at each meeting and then the rest of the time will be dedicated to answering questions.

Submissions on the draft plan close on April 22.
