Ramp fee reminder for boat owners

Boat owners have been reminded they have to pay launching fees for using Waitaki lakes ramps administered by the Waitaki District Council this year.

Last year, boat owners had to pay fees on two ramps on Lake Benmore at Ohau C and Falstone.

This year fees have been extended to all ramps on the south side of the Waitaki lakes administered by the Waitaki council.

Council property administrator Margaret Hamilton said this week the daily launch fee was $5 a day or a season ticket could be bought for $80 for the Falstone and Ohau C ramps or $50 for the ramps at Lakes Middleton and Ohau, Sailor's Cutting (Lake Benmore) and those on Lake Aviemore.

Income from the fees will be used to maintain and improve launch facilities and boat harbours.

Tickets to show the fees had been paid should be placed on the dashboards of the towing vehicles.

Campers at Waitaki council lakes reserves do not have to pay.

A season ramp ticket will be included in the annual fee they pay for their campsite.

Booths have been erected at every ramp, where people can pay the fee and get tickets.

This year, camping reserves administered by the Waitaki council are opening this weekend, earlier than usual to cater for visitors for the Rugby World Cup.
