Security photo helps to identify burglary suspect

A photo taken from a liquor outlet's security video camera during a burglary last month has resulted in Oamaru police identifying the alleged offender with help from the public.

Police released the photo of the Super Liquor break-in on January 7 to media on February 3, appealing for the public to help identify the offender.

Sergeant Wayne Brew, of Oamaru, said yesterday there had been several telephone calls from people, all of who identified the same person.

That person had been spoken to by police, although charges had yet to be laid.

About $1500 worth of damage was caused to the outlet and $70 worth of alcohol was stolen.
