Chum Cleave's service and dedication to the Upper Waitaki Returned and Services Association has been recognised with the presentation of a Gold Star award.
Mr Cleave (90), who attended his first Anzac Day service at Hakataramea in 1923, received the award in Kurow recently from Otago-Southland RSA district president Bruce Henderson.
His M badge was then pinned on his grandson, Peter Cleave, who has attended Anzac Day dawn services with his grandfather since he was 5.
Mr Cleave has only missed services at Hakataramea when he was away at World War 2 and several years ago when he attended a service in Melbourne.
