The programme for this year’s Steampunk NZ Festival in Oamaru will feature  all the attractions that traditionally bring hundreds of steampunkers  from around the country and  overseas.

The June 1-5 festival coincides with Oamaru Fire and Steam, which takes place in the Victorian Precinct on June 2.

That will be followed by a vaudeville, steampunk-style after-party with entertainer Jackie Clarke  master  of ceremonies.

A steampunk market, teapot  racing, a mess dinner with  murder mystery and airship racing, and a performance by Oamaru’s own steampunk band are scheduled for the Saturday, and the market continues on the Sunday.

The steampunk fashion show, also being MCed by Clarke, returns to the Oamaru  Opera House on the Sunday after relocating from the Oamaru Club, and an underwater-themed gala ball  will close the festival on Sunday night.

There will also be a writers’ workshop with author Gareth  Ward, winner of this year’s  Storylines Tessa Duder Award for a young adult manuscript.

Dunedin-based Michelle Webb will host a children’s steampunk workshop.
