Survey supports signs

There was overwhelming support for retaining visitor signs in the Hampden-Moeraki area, the Waihemo Community Board heard this week.

A survey organised by Colleen Dooley, of Hampden, attracted 119 signatures over two days.

Participants were given three options: support the present signs; support new signs being proposed by the Waitaki Development Board; or "don't care".

Only one person supported the new signs, and the rest opted for retaining the present signs.

It was "ridiculous" having a new sign saying "visit Hampden" placed in the town, Mrs Dooley said.

Waihemo ward councillor Kathy Dennison said the new signs had not been officially approved by the Waitaki District Council.

Negotiations would take place between the Waihemo Community Board and the Waitaki Development Board over the placement of the new visitor signs, Mrs Dennison said.
