Each of three times since 2008 he has completed a walk the length of New Zealand bearing his cross he has vowed it was the last time.
Now, he is away again on his fourth.
This time, the 27-year-old Christian is heading for Cape Reinga, and then Oihi Bay, in Northland, where he will arrive on Christmas Day to join in commemorations of 200 years since Samuel Marsden preached the first sermon in New Zealand.
Asked if it was to be his last, he said: ''Yes. But I've always said it's my last one ... I'm not planning to do it again.''
However, there was still that ''but'' lingering in his reply.
Leaving Stewart Island on September 4, he will have completed about 2500km by the time he arrives for the commemorations.
This time he is taking a slightly different route through the centre of the South Island, from Invercargill to Queenstown then State Highway 8 to Geraldine and out to join State Highway 1.
His last walk the length of New Zealand was in 2012, using a trolley on which the cross, heavier than those he used previously, rested.
The two-bicycle-wheels trolley will be used again, carrying a small tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, a change of clothes, a little food, tyre repair kit, toiletries and his bible.
Like previous trips, he expects a lot of invitations to stay in homes overnight - on the last he slept only about five nights in his tent.
''It's pretty amazing the help and invitations you get,'' he said.
''Since that time, God has asked me to walk the country with the cross a number of times. Each time has been very different and something I have not taken lightly,'' he said.
This time he is also carrying the New Zealand and Tino Rangatiratanga flags, to signify the two different groups of people and promote a message of unity and forgiveness.
People will be able to keep track of his progress on his Facebook page, RyanCraigsWalk2014.
