Waitaki mayor undecided

Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton has still not decided whether he will seek a second term in the local body elections this year.

"I'm taking the attitude it's too far out from the election," he said, when asked, yesterday.

He said he would "make a decision in due course", but would not be drawn on when that would be.

Mr Familton, a former councillor for the Waihemo ward, defeated encumbent Alan McLay in 2007.

Last year, he said he wanted to consult people who had nominated him for his first term as mayor before making a decision.

Nominations for the mayoralty, council and community boards open on July 23 and close on August 20.

Election day is October 9.
