More than 3500 bargain hunters spent better than $165,000 at the Wakatipu Ski Club annual trade-in ski sale at the Queenstown Event Centre yesterday.

Ski sale manager Peter Devine said the entries and sales figures were on a par with last year.

He said the club was pleased with the turnout with more than 3000 items for sale.

Thousands of skis, snowboards, boots, poles, jackets, gloves, hats and goggles were whisked out the door during the sale, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, he said.

After more than 30 years, it is one of Queenstown's longest-running fundraising events.

The first ski sale run by the Wakatipu Ski Club was in 1977.

The fundraiser provides the majority of funding for the ski club's facility maintenance and expansion, as well as subsidising ski and board lessons for club members.

Nick and Louise Donnelly were first in the long line of people to get into the ski sale after arriving at 11.30am.

Having just moved to Queenstown from Auckland, they were at the sale to kit out the whole family, including three children, with gear for the season.
