Wakatipu High School has received 20 applications for the position of principal and the school's board of trustees will shortlist the candidates this month for a term three appointment.
Applications closed two weeks ago and board of trustee member Greg Turner said the calibre of applicants was higher than four years ago when the job was last open.
Mr Turner said a "selection committee" hoped to make a shortlist by the end of the month, but could not confirm how many candidates would be a part of this group.
