The Battle of the Basin this Saturday shapes up to be a cracker, as both Arrowtown and Wakatipu are unbeaten so far in the 2014 season and the White Horse Cup is on the line.
At the weekend both sides enjoyed victories, with Wakatipu retaining the cup against Cromwell B, a team featuring Wakatipu's reserves.
Coach Damian Petre said the home side decided to call the game off 20 minutes into the second half, having already put 80 points on the board.
''The casualties list was getting too large, so we called it quits.
''It doesn't do anyone any favours getting to 100 [points].''
Petre said a ''big week of training'' was on the cards ahead of this weekend's clash of the titans at the Queenstown Rec Ground.
In Arrowtown, coach Hayden Finch described his team's 33-0 win over Upper Clutha A as ''one of the best Arrowtown performances in the last few years''.
A key feature for Finch was a lack of injuries to his side, which had been battered and bruised in recent weeks.
Saturday will be the first time since 2012 Arrowtown has had an opportunity to challenge for the White Horse Cup, which was an added incentive.
''The White Horse is great, but it's the Wakatipu clash we get up for.''
Kick-off for the game is 2.30pm at the Queenstown Rec Ground.
