Arrowtown residents woke to snow this morning and must take extra care on roads and pavements.

Lakes District Museum and Information Office administration manager Glenys Young said this morning she drove at the 40kmh along the back road of Malaghan's Rd, between Queenstown and Arrowtown, but shops and services in the village were open.

''It's packed down and quite icy and I've noticed a lot of snow on cars driving about. There's a centimetre thick sprinkling of snow.''

Queenstown police said this morning there were four ice related crashes Queenstown-Glenorchy Rd, Gibbston Valley Rd, Wilson Bay and Wye Cres over the weekend.

There were three single vehicle incidents without injuries, but with minor damage to vehicles and motorist collied with a parked car in the Queenstown suburb of Fernhill.

Arrowtown School was open as normal today although parents of pupils living near the Crown Range Rd made other travel arrangements to the school when the bus service was cancelled.
