Two Queenstown men were arrested and charged with assault following an incident at a touch rugby game in the resort on Monday night.
Sergeant Brian Cameron, of Queenstown, said inquiries were continuing into the incident which saw a 44-year-old and 20-year-old appear in the Queenstown District Court yesterday.
The pair were remanded on bail to January 12.
The incident occurred during a touch rugby game at the Queenstown Primary School grounds at 7.25pm on Monday.
Sgt Cameron said the two men clashed with a member of the opposition team, resulting in a 34-year-old man being taken to Lakes District Hospital.
"Inquiries are continuing. Until we have a full picture of what's occurred it's difficult to comment further.
"It is possible that more serious charges will be laid," Sgt Cameron said.
