Aussies told to 'leave boozy antics at home'

Police have warned Australian visitors to "leave their their boozy antics at home" following several incidents in Queenstown.

A drunk 20-year-old Australian student was asked to leave the World Bar at 12.10am on Monday and went outside, only to allegedly attempt to re-enter, which caused a struggle with door staff.

The man refused to leave until police officers arrived, and arrested the man on charges of disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.

Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown, said yesterday three intoxicated 20-year-old Australians "ran amok, yelling, screaming and abusing staff" in McDonald's restaurant on Camp St at 1.55am.

The men were arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence.

A 21-year-old Australian man was allegedly so intoxicated he had no idea why he was found in the kitchen of the Rydges Lakeland Queenstown Resort at 3.45am. He was charged with trespassing.

"We like our Aussie friends to come over to enjoy the charms of Queenstown, but they can leave their boozy antics at home," Sgt Newell said.

A 22-year-old Queenstown man was allegedly challenged to perform "burn-outs" in a car on Camp St by friends at 11.30am.

The man was charged with driving with a breath-alcohol level of 655mcg and with the sustained loss of traction. His vehicle was impounded.

Those arrested are expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court on July 16.
