A concession for senior Wakatipu residents to cruise on the TSS Earnslaw for her 99th birthday will start the countdown to the week-long centenary celebrations for the historic Queenstown steamship.

Seniors can board the "Lady of the Lake" from Steamer Wharf and enjoy a 90-minute return cruise for $10 on Tuesday at 10am.

Complimentary tea, coffee and birthday cake will be on offer.

Seniors can take up to two grandchildren on the cruise for $10 each. Proceeds will be given by operator Real Journeys to Jigsaw, the Wakatipu abuse intervention network.

Real Journeys Queenstown operations manager Tracey Maclaren said yesterday the concession was an opportunity to mark the birthday of the Earnslaw and generate funds for a Wakatipu charity, while raising awareness of the steam ship's 100th anniversary one year later.

TSS Earnslaw centenary celebrations begin on October 14, 2012 with a reunion of past and present Real Journeys and New Zealand Railways staff.
