A British tourist is likely to face a charge of careless driving following a two-vehicle road accident in Wanaka yesterday.

Sergeant Paul Crosswell said the 30-year-old man was behind the wheel of a rental campervan involved in a collision with a car at an intersection.

The two female occupants of the car - both Alexandra-based Korean nationals, aged 26 and 20 - sustained minor injuries in the collision and were taken to the Wanaka Medical Centre to be checked.

Sgt Crosswell said it appeared the driver of the campervan had failed to give way as his vehicle emerged from Russell St, near Cinema Paradiso, into the busy intersection of Ardmore and Brownston Sts.

The male driver and a female occupant in the campervan were both uninjured, he said.

Paramedics helped treat the two women, while local business owners assisted fire brigade members with the accident clean-up.

Sgt Crosswell yesterday said the male driver would face a driving charge, the exact nature of which had not been determined.
