Charges follow Queenstown stomping

A 24-year-old Auckland man has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to injure following what police called ''another abhorrent case'' of violence in Queenstown.

Sergeant Kate Pirovano, of Queenstown, said police came across the man and a 28-year-old from North Canterbury at 12.50am yesterday on the corner of Camp and Shotover Sts.

The pair were believed to be unknown to each other, but a verbal argument quickly escalated and became physical, with the 24-year-old seen by police stomping on the head and arm of the victim, Sgt Pirovano said.

''It's another abhorrent case of males using their feet just haphazardly on people that could easily kill [someone] if struck in the right place.''
