Cold needed for ice luge

Monday's snowfall in Central Otago was good for the Naseby ice luge and outdoor ice skating rink but more cold weather is needed if they are to open as scheduled this weekend.

Maniototo ice rink chairman Jock Scott said air temperatures of at least -3degC were needed for the snow to remain and Tuesday was too warm.

There was no frost overnight on Tuesday and the temperature yesterday remained above zero all day.

He hoped colder temperatures would assist in preparations of the ice luge.

Preparations for the outdoor ice rink had also started but it and the ice luge were both ''hugely affected'' by weather conditions.
