A driver and his wife from Auckland were taken by St John ambulance to the Lakes District Hospital with minor injuries after they were involved in a car crash near Arrowtown yesterday.

Detective Grant Miller, of Queenstown, said yesterday the couple, both aged 64, were travelling in a rented silver Toyota saloon west on Speargrass Flat Rd, about 11.15am.

A 34-year-old Queenstown builder was driving a black Ford Ranger utility, with a 43-year-old Queenstown businessman as a passenger, and travelling north on Lower Shotover Rd.

An uninvolved third car in front of the saloon either stopped or pulled over at the give-way sign, but the driver of the saloon apprently did not see, or realise, it was a give-way intersection and drove straight through, into the side of the utility.

The Auckland man suffered a sore back and the woman suffered sore ribs, Det Miller said.

Inquiries were continuing, he said.
