Celebrated New Zealand writer Katherine Mansfield is the subject of a one-woman play bound for Queenstown next month.

Arts on Tour New Zealand presents Talking of Katherine Mansfield, starring Cathy Downes MNZM, of Waiheke Island.

The actress-director toured The Case of Katherine Mansfield to great acclaim and award-winning success in England, Australia and New Zealand. Decades later, she discusses and performs highlights from the earlier play and offers new insights into its themes.

The play is illuminated by a selection of Mansfield's finest short stories, including The Doll's House.

The former artistic director of the Court Theatre, Christchurch, and director of Downstage Theatre, Wellington, was invited to perform Talking of Katherine Mansfield at the Ubud Readers and Writers Festival in Bali last year and she will perform a further season in Singapore in July this year.

• After a season in Circa Theatre, Wellington, from late February to this Saturday, Arts on Tour NZ takes Talking of Katherine Mansfield to 14 venues next month, including the Queenstown Memorial Centre on April 24 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost $20 on the door.
